We’re looking forward to February already, and the warmer months coming in too, and with so many events taking place in DC it can be hard to choose what you want to do first. Don’t let the cold weather hold you back! Here are our top picks for February.
Watch the Super Bowl in Style
Football fans will be much more excited about February 7th than Valentine’s Day, as the Super Bowl is quickly approaching. The 50th Super Bowl will be played in California, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy it in DC. There are a number of bars, restaurants and even hotels that will be broadcasting this sporting event so you can have a few drinks and enjoy the show.
Lots of sports bars in the area will have a special menu for the event and will showcase their wit in designing dishes with team names and colors. These menus are usually cut price too, as they encourage visitors to come along and watch the game. As this is known as the Golden Super Bowl, be prepared to see some interpretations of this theme, whether it’s golden fried chicken or edible gold leaf.
Chocolate Dinner at Mount Vernon
If you’re a chocolate lover, then there’s no better place to be next month than Mount Vernon, the home of President Washington. On the 12th of February, they’re hosting a chocolate dinner, and that’s just as decadent and exciting as it sounds. The four course menu has an element of chocolate in every plate, from a salad with a chocolate vinaigrette to a steak with chocolate and stout sauce. Chinese New Year Events
Alongside the Super Bowl, Washington will also be hosting a number of special events for Chinese New Year. These festivals are bursting full of fun and the center for this action is, of course, Chinatown. This year the festival coincides with Valentine’s Day and continues from 2pm to 5pm in the day. It will feature traditional dancing, martial arts and dragon parades throughout the streets and will be a joy to watch. There will also be firework displays, and this can be the ideal place to go before a romantic dinner and movie.
Spend Valentine’s Day in DC
If you’re looking for a getaway, or even just a nice meal, for the most romantic day of the year, DC won’t disappoint. No matter what kind of day you envision yourself having, you’ll find something that you and your loved ones will enjoy. DC boasts everything from cruises on the Potomac to distillery tours, depending on what you are in the mood for. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be sure to have a great time. If you’re looking for a nice evening out, be sure to book in advance to ensure you have a space at your desired location.
