It sure has been a cold winter and everyone at Grayline is certainly looking forward to the warmer months ahead. We’re certain that we are not alone either so to get us in the mood, we thought we would look at some of the springtime activities that you can enjoy during springtime in Washington DC. The nation’s capital is one of the best places in the country at this time of year as there is so much to see and do and we’ve rounded up a few ideas of our own to help keep you entertained this spring.
Not only does spring bring better weather but it also means that the DC Ducks are back in action! These are fully restored WW2 boats that used to carry supplies to the city from ships that did not have the ability to make port. These vehicles are now available for a tour of the city and you can enjoy some of the best sights of DC by riding the DC Duck! The current tour lasts around an hour and a half and takes you on a tour to see some of the most famous monuments and museums that the city has to offer. If you’re looking for the perfect way to see the best DC has to offer, join us on our Two Day Washington DC Grand Tour
It would not be spring in DC without a trip to the National Zoo which is why this popular attraction is next on our list. There are more than 2000 animals located in the zoo and there is no better time to visit than on a spring morning. You will find some of the world’s most fascinating creatures at this location and it is the perfect activity for the whole family. From the Asian Trail to the African Savannah, the National Zoo has it all so be sure to pay it a visit this spring.
Next up, we have the famous Tidal Basin and the reason that this is included in our list is because of the blossoming cherry trees that are visible at this time of year. This one can be an incredible spectacle to behold on the right day and you can usually see the Jefferson Memorial in the background. There is also the Cherry Blossom Festival and we will bring you more info on this in the coming months. You can also rent a paddle boat and spend a few hours on the water at this picturesque location and enjoy the warmth of a spring day. The area is also spectacular at night, and you can enjoy the best DC has to offer at this time with our DC After Dark tour!
Finally, we feel we should mention Old Town as it is one of our personal favorites when it comes to places to explore in the springtime in Washington. Located on the Potomac River waterfront, Old Town Alexandria holds many bustling boutiques and acclaimed chef-driven restaurants and there are plenty of experiences to enjoy especially in spring! You can take a stroll down King Street and enjoy some of the centuries-old architecture by taking a free ride on the King Street Trolley. It’s one of our favorite locations in the whole city and well worth a visit on a sunny afternoon. For more information, please do contact us and we’ll be happy to help!
