Apollo To The Moon
Head to the National Air and Space Museum to celebrate the 1961 commitment by President Kennedy to land a man on the Moon. At that time, America had sent only one astronaut into space, and only for a very short time. When Kennedy’s Apollo program ended, it celebrated the efforts of over a half-million people who helped produce the large and powerful rockets that sent members of the human race farther than they had ever managed to go before. The exhibition is open until August 31, 2017.
Masterpieces of American Furniture
At the National Gallery of Art, you will see a celebrated collection of Kaufman furniture dated between 1700 and 1830. The collection was acquired over four decades and was donated for exhibit to the National Gallery of Art in October 2010. A permanent installation, it is located on the Ground Floor in the West Building. There are over 100 examples of American period furniture, decorative arts, and a selection of porcelains and Pierre Joseph Redouté watercolors from the Kaufman Collection. Paintings by other celebrated American artists have also been integrated into the display.
