Each year we celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June but it can be hard to find that perfect gift. Washington DC offers you all sorts of ways to spend the day and say thanks to your dad, with some whacky things to do too. If you’re ready to take the plunge and find a unique way to spend the day then here are our best suggestions:
Go on a Beer Tour
Craft breweries are becoming ever more popular and our Nation’s Capital is home to many of them. Rather than gifting your dad with a 6 pack of beer from the market, take him out and spend the day sampling. The smaller breweries in the city are often located in bars with excellent food, so you can have a bite to eat at the same time.
Check out a Car Show
If your dad loves looking at classic cars then pop over to the Crystal City Car Show, where you’ll find some amazing examples of restorations. They have everything from muscle cars to the latest in electric technology, just a stone’s throw from the city center. If you’re taking the whole family along, there are also more than a few things for kids to do, like creating their own race cars and kart races.
Do DC in a Day
One way to ensure that Father’s Day is memorable is to book one of our tours. The DC in a Day tour is ideal for those looking to make the day one to look back on. These tours will take you to all of the most popular tourist locations in the city on a day packed with adventure. Check out the history of the Founding Fathers, including stops at Mount Vernon and Monticello. If you prefer more time and flexibility to make the day your own, then have a look at one of our Hop On, Hop Off tours instead.
Take a Hike
The hills surrounding the city are simply breath taking, and hiking up them is a great day out for active fathers. There are so many trails to go on with all sorts of levels of difficulty, so each person is catered for. If we get some great weather then hiking up the hills can offer stunning views and a fun day out for all concerned.
Visit the Jazz Festival
If your father loves jazz music and wine tastings, then the DC Jazz Festival is not to be missed. All weekend long you can tour bars and venues while seeing some of the top jazz artists from home and further afield. Host bars and venues are also putting on wine tastinsg and other events to coincide with the festival. There are so many artists to see throughout the duration of the festival so all fans of music will be sure to enjoy it. Father’s Day is the very last day of this event, which is sure to go off with a bang!
