This week in August is dedicated to one of the best things you’ll find readily available in DC – beer! Our beer week ends on August 23rd, but there’s still plenty of time to take part in the festivities and taste some fine ales before the week is out.
There are of course some great beer gardens to enjoy a refreshing pint in the sun, but if you’re conscious about your exposure in this heat, or are just not taking your chances in case of rainfall, you’ll find plenty of great things to do as part of beer week indoors.
Here are just a few of the great things you can discover:
DC Brew Tours
Why not take a trip around DC’s great breweries? You’d be surprised to learn that alongside John Wall, there are a few other popular breweries in the DC area, not to mention a few start up breweries which will allow you to be among the first to try their wares. There are specific tour trips which will take you around all the breweries, including transportation and food pairings. Along with your tour you’ll receive gift certificates which can be redeemed as some of DC’s best beer hubs. It’s the ideal way to celebrate with any craft beer lover.
Restaurant Marvin
If you’re looking for some soul food to accompany some fantastic cocktails all in a glamorous setting, then Restaurant Marvin is the place to be. Named after the legendary Washington soul singer Marvin Gaye himself, this rooftop restaurant located on 14th Street NW has plenty of soul food with a Belgian twist. Enjoy the many full flavors of the dishes while sipping on a mimosa or one of the fabulous beers on offer, and maybe even experience life out on the sun deck if weather permits. Book this restaurant for weekend brunch and enjoy DJ’s spinning while you’re sipping.
Red Derby
If you love nothing better than enjoying a craft beer in a dive bar, then Red Derby is the place for you. Located in Columbia Heights, their beer list is extensive, encompassing a variety of cans and draughts, not to mention a selection of special beer shots! There’s also a rooftop deck which is open in summer, but the real deal is the indoor dive bar vibe which not only offers such a vast selection of beers, but also some fantastic bar food like wedges, tacos, mac and cheese and much more.
Those are just some of the great places you can enjoy during Beer Week in DC. If you want to get around to visit a few of them and see some of the great historical attractions in DC along the way, check out our Gray Line Hop On, Hop Off Tours which allow you to explore the city at your leisure, spending more time in the places you’re most interested in – whether that be a brewery or rooftop bar.
