Please Note

  • This tour is unavailable on Sunday.
  • You must be present at our Union Station office by the time the tour is scheduled to depart to guarantee ridership on the tour. We are located at 50 Massachusetts Ave. NE, Washington, DC 20002, on the Bus Terminal Level. Once the tour departs, guests cannot join along the route. You should arrive between 15-30 minutes before your tour's scheduled start time to check in properly.
  • Our drivers are licensed DC sightseeing guides, but they do not get off and accompany you to each memorial, as they are responsible for the Motorcoach, itself.

Tour Itinerary

Join us as we embark on our African American Heritage Tour throughout the historic District of Washington D.C! Take a step back in time as we engage and enchant you, while exploring the history as to why African Americans have made DC a capital of activism and culture. You will see monumental sites and the lives of remarkable people such as Thurgood Marshall, Dr. Carter G Woodson and many more! Encounter U Street, the heart of African American theatre and music: Howard University, the flagship of African American higher education: and Anacostia, a historic suburb once home to Fredrick Douglas. Of course we will be seeing Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's memorial, which was inspired by his "I have a Dream Speech" at the Lincoln memorial. This tour will be filled with energy and education as we travel through time visiting the foundation and groundwork for African American history in Washington DC!

50 Massachusetts Ave. NE, Washington, DC 20002 • washingtondc@grayline.com • (202) 779-9894 • On the day of your tour, please present your voucher at the Gray Line ticket window on the bus level of the parking garage at Union Station. To get to the bus level, you will go to the center rear of Union Station and go up an escalator, then out the doors leading to the parking garage. Just outside those doors is a second escalator and we are located at the top on the left, inside the Greyhound Building. Please arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to your assigned departure time The African American Heritagae tour time is 10:00am-2:00pm
