What’s On in D.C This Month?
As October comes to an end, there are still a bunch of events going on in the city. There are several types of festivals, days out and local interest groups to get involved in whether you’re here for a day or longer. There is always something taking place night or day, and here are our picks for the upcoming weeks.
Outdoor Cinema Screenings
There’s nothing like grabbing your picnic blanket and heading out to watch a film under the stars. The latest film festival in D.C will have you doing just that, but wrap up warm, as it’s getting chilly out there! Head over to Canal Park every night until the end of the month to watch a classic film with the backdrop of the Capitol Building illuminating the evening. There are a host of movies to choose from on differing nights, so there’s something for every budding movie fan. The best part about this event is that it’s totally free and it’s also family friendly, so everyone can enjoy it. If you want to see the sight of the Capitol Building at night then why not sample the D.C After Dark tour, where you’ll see all of the city sights in this setting.
Watch Improv at the DC Improv Comedy Club
Improvisation is one of the hardest skills for any comedian and those adept at the art are hilarious to watch. The DC Improv Comedy Club is open each day in the heart of the city, and they showcase up and coming, as well as established, members daily. These shows are filled with laughter and fun, so they’re not something that you’ll want to miss out on. DC Improv Comedy Club is located at 1140 Connecticut Ave NW.
Barktoberfest at Yards Park
Although the month of October is overrun with beer festivals, this is one with a bit of a twist. This is for dog owners and lovers in the city, as your four legged, furry friend is welcome to all of the events. You can socialize with other people and they can socialize with other dogs, so it’s a win win for each of you. They have a fine selection of beers from craft breweries at home and abroad as well as all of the events that you would expect. You can enter your dog in a costume competition, browse the Bavarian food (with items for you and your dog) and dance to some live music. This takes place on the 24th of October and your dog will love all of the interaction.
The Washington International Horse Show at Verizon Center
This event always takes place within the last week of October and offers an array of activities for kids and adults. It’s an indoor showing of some of the best riders in the country, and no enthusiast will be disappointed by the big names on show. Famous riders and their equally famous horses will be there to showcase their Olympic medals and the skills that they used to win them. The High Jump Show is a sight that no visitor should miss, and this sporting event will make any spectator marvel at the bond between horse and rider.
